How My Eczema Went Away Forever

Peace be upon you, beautiful human being!

One day, I woke up. Stumbling over to the bathroom sink in my sleepy stupor, I stretched my arms and greeted myself in the mirror. “G’mornin’!”

As real me met mirror me, our eyes widened with horror. Did a bee sting me? Did I have an allergic reaction? How did this even happen?

Resting beneath my brows were two bold red stripes…and as I looked on in horror, they were getting bigger.

For the next few days, I wore sunglasses to work…in the dark.

Rushing into the optho doc’s office, I was quickly diagnosed with dry eye. Since I also had an infection, I was put on tobradex – an antibiotic.

Finally, the next day, I awoke to a clear face. I was thrilled that medicine had worked a miracle for me.

Two days later, my eczema returned…with a vengeance.

Poring over webMD articles, I ordered Manuka honey creams in a frenzy. I meticulously went through blog articles just like this one, in hopes that I would find my cure.

The doctor said she’d have to put me on Restasis – an immunosuppressant drug. That’s when I decided I was going to change my diet.

Tightening the belt, I cut out all processed foods and sugar. No more burgers n’ fries, girl! I started eating more green vegetables and sunnah superfoods, like black seeds and honey. Everything organic and whole called my name. Eventually, I co-founded a pure foods snack company with my best friend.

Coincidentally, my eczema/dry eye/infection snuck away and has never come back. Alhamdulillah. All praise and thanks is to The Lord of All the Worlds.

Who You Really Are

Peace be upon you, beautiful human being!

There is only one truth underlying the breathtaking diversity of all the worlds.

That’s why it’s called the truth.

You see, when the windows are thick with dust, the sun may appear blurry, barely visible.

As the days pass on, you may even come to think it doesn’t exist.

What’s it going to take to make the sun real again?

That’s right. Pick up that cloth by the window and start cleaning. The one true sun will be waiting on the other side.

“It was not the sun who moved…it was me and you.”

Iqbal said that the purpose of education is to show you the splendors of your Self.

That’s who you really are, my love. Everything else is just temporary, barring you access to that Divine Light until you realize…

All you have to do is pick up the cloth and start to clean.

Your choice. Your responsibility.

Yet, infinite fountains of hope spring after winter seemed like it would never end.

Hope. Free will.

Free will. Hope.

What will you choose?

Love x gratitude,

Just Mishi

How to Lose Weight So You Can Fly II

Peace be upon you, beautiful human being!

Disclaimer: This is my story, and my research. However, this statement has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Remember that our physical existence is intimately connected to the mental and spiritual parts of us.

The comfort of the body is in eating less, the comfort of the soul is in sinning less and the comfort of the tongue is in speaking less.

Ibn Al Qayyim (RA)

Lack of proper nutrition is such a prevalent problem in our communities, even with the most credentialed amongst us!

We have doctors that are at risk of so many preventable diseases due to their fast-paced, nutrient-poor lifestyle.

This topic is personal for me. Over the past two years, I have successfully lost over 30 pounds…it was definitely that freshmen “15” x 2 from under-grad. Bright city nights, restaurant hopping with the girls, I was completely ignorant of what I was putting into my body.

Of the mental and spiritual consequences of this junk food.

I used to think that a 100-calorie packaged snack was the healthiest thing. That low-fat would make you thin in an instant. That juicing and tea-toxing was a quick weight loss game.

My days and nights were spent poring over weight loss stories, watching endless YouTube videos, searching for that miracle product that would change it all.

I tried every diet under the sun. Keto, low-fat, low-carb, high-fiber, GG crackers (never again), and even the water-only diet (never again in sha Allah). That last one left me dizzy and helpless, upside down on the couch the entire weekend.

Also, the tea-tox pretty much nearly poisoned me.

So you get the idea of how badly I wanted this. It was a direct reflection of my discipline, and I craved change.

I knew I could do better.

Remember, when you start walking on the way, the way appears. (Rumi)

Fast forward, I kind of stumbled into a weight loss program that would turn my life around.

That program was…

A lifestyle.

Little habits, like not eating until 3pm, having two meals a day maximum, investing in a HydroFlask 64oz led me to discovering my own organic, whole food recipes and launching an organic, sustainably-sourced food business (Pure5Bar)!

In its first month this past Ramadan, it was able to build a water well in Nigeria. Alhamdulillah. Real food to heal for a real cause.

I’m going to share my everyday routine (for weight loss/overall health) here, to you, for free. So pay attention:

Wake up – 3pm: Sip-sipping on 64oz Hydroflask full of purified water with gratitude (watch The Secret of Water on prime)

3pm: Miracle yogurt with our Pure5 Super Seed Blend, full of fiber & protein, healthy fats & low in carbs

Keep sipping on water. What are you grateful for? Reflect on it. Write it down.

5pm: Chai time! If you’re ok with dairy, use grass-fed organic milk along with chai confection, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon + black tea. Add in a pinch of saffron for a natural mood-booster.

6pm: Dinner time! Yesss. Air-fry some organic broccoli and baby carrots at 360F at 7-min or a lil’ extra to make it crispy. That’s my bopcorn & copcorn, dude!

Give that wild salmon from Costco a rub-down with Costco spice blend, salt and lemon juice.

Pop it in the oven at 375F for 17 minutes. There’s your protein source! Change it up with the veggies if you’d like and the “meat” – this is my go-to easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy meal prep! No excuses.

End off with some green tea (de-caf if it gets to you) + gratitude. Pray throughout your day, and end off with deep breathing in a calm atmosphere: both inside and out. Candles, clean room, white noise – set yourself up for success, relax, zero stress!

Great sleep does wonders for your skin & weight loss too, in my opinion!

Over time, my stomach shrank. It no longer craved fake foods even at parties. My self-esteem rose. It was like the butterfly shaking off it’s wings and getting ready to fly!

After reading Mark Hyman’s Food Fix, once more, I realized that it’s all connected.

What’s good for the earth is good for us. What’s good for us is great for the earth.

Organic food, regardless of everything, is ideal for us and our planet…to help it heal.

This is what launched our Pure5Bar revolution! If you say it fast enough, it’s “fibarrr!”

‘Cuz yes, natural fiber does actually help relieve your body of waste…one of the most common problems in the U.S.

More on this tomorrow! Excited to share some personal stories with you of how real food literally helped me write a real book in s…i…x days!?! Stay tuned 🙂 Lord Willing.

With immense love x gratitude,

Just Mishi

What are “vibes” anyway?

Peace be with you always, you beautiful human being!

Be aware of your own worth, do not beg for light from the moon, obtain it from the spark within you.

This is one of my absolute favorite topics.

Physics, Self-Development & Islam. Those are my core passions in a nutshell.

Did you ever pause to reflect on where the word vibes comes from?

That’s right. Vibrations.

Good vibes only. Only people with energy levels that match my own are welcome in this space. That’s what it’s referring to, isn’t it?

I got bad vibes from that strange man. There was a mismatch in our vibrations, our energies and that led me to feeling uncomfortable. I did not belong there.

Is it all connecting for you?

Have you ever come home and felt like you ran a thousand miles, or got crumpled beneath an oncoming train?

Yet, all you did was hang out with your “friends”…after this signal, you know these people are energy vampires.

You know exactly what you feel, and you know it needs to change for you to bloom.

What about when you only sleep a couple of hours, yet you attend a gathering of remembrance and all the fatigue just vanishes?

Sometimes you haven’t even eaten or drank a sip of water, running on literal fumes & you’re pumped with energy.

Just like we eat energy-boosting food and drink (hey, red bull), we must surround ourselves with people that boost our energy too! It’s the most important part of all. Research backs this up.

Who we choose to surround ourselves with can radically transform the course of our lives forever. It’s that serious.

Choose to be in the company of high energy individuals, those you seek to be like, and you’ll absorb it into your own being.

But don’t be an energy vampire. Make sure to continuously work on cultivating your own energy levels, too. Here are 5 ways to do just this:

  1. Prayer + remembrance of Allah (God), the Source Energy, the Light of the heavens & the earth
  2. Reading and bonding with the word of our One God (Quran, authentic Bible + Torah)
  3. Reading motivational books from people you admire (the seerah of Prophet Muhammad (saw))
  4. Serving those in need with a smile + no expectations
  5. Watching motivational talks & podcasts

Following these recipes for success while diligently making the effort to better yourself, everyday will have you bouncing with joy!

Every day will be a beautiful day. A new dawn, full of renewed hopes.

A brilliant chance to make your wildest dreams come true.

The dreams God Himself Has for you.

It’s all possible but remember, good vibes only. When I applied this rule to my own life and starting working on the inside…miraculously, my network expanded to include such incredible role models.

Opportunities to make my dreams a reality came knocking on my door. I was shown that I had the power to co-create my own future.

Only when I changed my vibes, though.

“What you seek is seeking you.” “And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” “As you start to walk out on the way, the way appears.”

All of these celebrated quotes are talking about energy, dude. You attract what you become.

So, when you decide to look in the mirror and be the change…guess what? The world will actually change.

You will get chances that you never imagined before, connected to people who will open crazy big doors for you, and be guided to positions of power and influence to truly change the world for the better.

These are the laws of the universe.

Take ’em for a test drive. What do you have to lose, except negative energy?

And it starts with changing who you hang out with.

Life’s way too short to keep the same ol’ circle who’s keeping you from blooming.

You were born to fly, so let it go. Surrender to all that you were destined to become. Seek your superpower.

And I promise you, in this journey to find yourself, you will fall in love with The Ultimate Truth of the universe: Allah.

The one who parted seas for Moses (peace be upon him), Granted Jesus (pbuh) to a virgin mother, saved Abraham (pbuh) from the fire, carried Joseph (pbuh) from slavery to kingdom, and made an orphan child who lost everything material the prince of this world & the everlasting.

He Will Make the impossible a breeze for you. Life will be a paradise right here, on earth.

There’s nothing He Can’t do. Connect with that Divine Energy. The Source of all that exists.

I can’t wait – can you?

With immense love x gratitude,

Just Mishi

Darwin’s Survival of the Fittest Isn’t Real

The lamps are different, but the Light is the same. One matter, one energy, one Light, one Light-mind, endlessly emanating all things.

Peace be upon you, beautiful human being!

Have you ever heard of redwood trees?

Yup, these bad boys right here!

Or rather…my undeniable proof for all of you who think life is one big competition.

The weak ones don’t survive ‘cuz they’re holding everyone else back. It’s their fault.

The strong ones deserve to survive and thrive ‘cuz they work hard for their money (?!). Or they just got lucky and won the genetic lottery.

Um, first of all…in my years and years of research & experience, there is no such thing as luck. And what-a-coincidence ain’t real. You heard it here first ^_^

It’s actually all about energy. You are what you attract, and you have the power to change that.

Secondly, this survival-of-the-fittest mentality is really regressive thinking, if you ask me.

Weren’t the strong ones once helpless, weak babies who required nursing from their mamas to breathe another day?

And what makes someone weak, anyway? The fact that they were born into poverty, or can’t afford to pay their bills?

What if that same person always swallows his anger for the sake of God? Are they still doomed to be cut out of the human genome?

Or is it the strong one’s fault?

Before we socratically answer that, here’s a curveball:

Do you know what’s so special about redwood trees? Before you google it, I want you to build this mindset:

You…live in a metaphor. This entire world? It’s a metaphor for your existence. Everything outside, the condition of the earth, the plants, the animals…is directly related to what’s inside of you.

Nature is bursting with examples – signs to make you reflect, think deeply and connect with something beyond this universe.

To make you realize your own superpower.

Now that we have this down, I’ll share something that changed my life forever. Being born into a first-generation immigrant household, I always believed that you should be one step ahead of your competition.

Number #1 is the most important title. It’s a crazy contest out there and you won’t make it unless you beat everyone else. That’s how you win the game.

Until I realized it’s not.

California redwood trees are the tallest trees in the entire world. How do they get to such seemingly impossible heights, so close to the stars, whispering intimately with the heavens?

They stick together. Their roots are intertwined. If a drought befalls the land, the water one tree has conserved is shared with all of the other trees. If a violent storm threatens their existence, they hold hands tightly, united as one, and not a single one falls.

Why do we say the famous phrases…United we stand, Divided we fall?

Because that’s how redwoods are the “kings of the forest” – the #1 reason for their surviving and thriving is that they make one another’s survival #1.

Read that again. It may be one of the most important sentences you absorb into your being. It sure was for me!

When it dawned over me that we are only as strong as each other, it was a eureka moment.

Then, I put it into practice and witnessed that every time I sacrificed a desire of mine to serve a fellow human being, opportunities arose for me out of the blue!

So, I got stronger as I served my beautiful humans and strived to show them how they could be strong, too!

What a beautiful symbiosis. What a beautiful world with such brilliant metaphysical laws that govern our lives. We are truly in this together.

Our purpose in life should revolve around serving one another, without any expectation except from Allah (God).

It is the purest form of love and joy, I promise you. Tried and tested.

Ooh, and also! We are all “feeding” from a collective consciousness. You know that saying we love…standing on the shoulders of giants before us?

That’s literal truth, too. Without those who sacrificed their lives for us, to bring us new ideas, languages, artwork, literature and even, our faith…even the strongest amongst us would be…nothing.

To salute our heroes of the past, we must pay it forward. Not maybe, not one day, but now.

If the weakest amongst us becomes stronger, our collective consciousness elevates…it rises to the next level and we all feed from that pool, to grow and evolve into better versions of ourselves – for one another. For the Unity we all descend from. For our One True God (Allah = Arabic Name for God).

So, the next time your neighbor asks for help in a sticky situation, or you hear of a storm in a far-away land, remember that we are one.

The harmony you see in the world and inside of you is a direct result of unity in everything. It’s all connected.

United we stand, divided we fall.

In God we trust.

If you want to go fast, go aloneIf you want to go fargo together.” —African Proverb

Writing this has made me love you all so much more.

What Will Prevent You From Progress?

Peace be upon you, beautiful human being of the world!

Here’s a lesson to be gently hammered into our heads.

When you’re trying to change for the better, do NOT ever compare yourself to anyone else.

Whether it’s physical appearance (“aesthetics“), IQ (which changes over time btw as the brain is malleable), house, car, yacht (!!?!lol), do NOT make this mistake.

The only exception to this rule is when you look up to someone who is more God-Conscious than you. Someone who is more generous, more loving, more smiling! 😀

Awwww you smiled! Gotcha there 🙂

Someone who keeps sunnah fasts, reads more Quran, and learns more knowledge.

Someone who loves Allah so much you can just see the light radiating from their face.

This kind of person is the only one you’re allowed to compare yourself to, and try to be like.

Other than that, all comparison means nothing. Nil. Zeeeero.

People who are pursuing excellence (ihsan), by definition, are those who have competition.

But who is their competition?

Themselves from yesterday.

Dunk, slam! Eureka. Bam, bam!

Just look at Michael Phelps. He doesn’t care about the way he looks, or the money he makes…as much as he cares about beating his own personal record.

Look at where it’s taken him.

If we as human beings adopt this rule, cosmetic surgeons may be out of business 😛

And mental health issues may alleviate to a great extent. Peace will be more than just a far-off ideal. Peace will be home, right in our hearts. Lord-Willing!

And we will evolve collectively, on the shoulders of giants before us, in a much more enlightened state of consciousness.

If I’m stronger, you’re stronger.

If you’re stronger, dude thanks, I’m stronger!

We’ll chit-chat more re:debunking survival of the fittest ‘cuz baby…we all in ‘dis togetha. That’s for sure.

Until next time…

With immense love x gratitude,

Just Mishi

Add Value Always

Peace be upon you, beautiful human being!

This is a lesson I learned from John Maxwell. Whenever you are in a gathering, on the phone or with a loved one, ask yourself, “How can I add value to this conversation/moment/person?”

Don’t just wait for the other person to finish talking. Remember, leaders speak last. They eat last, too.

Let everyone else do the talking. Swallow that speech of yours. That’s ego waiting for a turn.

Listen and tune in.

Make others feel heard. Give them importance. Add value to a life.

Before you know it, as you sacrifice this habit of taking over the conversation, you’ll realize your relationships will begin to improve.

Soon, you’ll be running for Congress! (And winning, Lord Willing!) in sha Allah.

When You’re Confused…

Peace be upon you, beautiful human being!

Right now, I just finished sweatin’ it out on le treadmill.

Having no expectations going in, I put on my YouTube (Majed Mahmoud’s Tricks of Shaytan) and just went for it!

Somehow, 20+ minutes passed by in the blink of an eye. As for me, I felt…nothing short of euphoria.

I went in with a headache, and came out with absolute, earth-shattering clarity about a decision. Like a revelation.

I feel soooo good. Can you feel it, too?

So, my beautiful friend…

The next time you feel confused, you have a choice to make, you need a little break from that big ol’ headache –

Don’t wait, sweat it out & celebrate. Life’s short, it’s not too late. Go. Be the captain of your own fate (God-Willing).

With boatloads of Love x Light,

Hold Onto The Rope Of Endless Hope

Peace be upon you, beautiful human being!

Have you ever had those days where you just want to stay under the covers forever? You feel like the whole world’s against you…and no one understands your struggle?

Well, I just had one of those days. Curled up on the couch with my head in my hands, I shared with my mom, “The batteries need charging.”

Heck yes, they do! At that low point, I had a choice to make:

Was I going to give up because the path was just too hard, or…

Would I cuddle myself to health, dust off my shoulders, and get back in the ring?!

(I’m still here).

The words that brought me the greatest comfort were those of Our Creator and Cherisher, Our Master and Our Lord, Allah (God):

“Whoever fears Allah, He brings forth a way out for him, and will provide for them from an unexpected source; God will be enough for those who put their trust in Him. God achieves His purpose; God has set a due measure for everything.” (Quran 65:3)

When the whole world seems like it’s against you, it doesn’t believe in you, and you have a vision that you know in your heart-of-hearts is your mission, you are not allowed to give up.

With Allah’s Infinite Grace, You MUST get back up. He’s With you. He Knows.

And that’s all that matters.

P.S. My heart is about to burst with gratitude for Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family), for this message of hope, of light and of life…that he sacrificed so much to share with us. I am so grateful for him.

After God, I love him more than anyone else and would give up everything just for a chance to see his (saw) face!

Immense Love x Gratitude,

Just Mishi

Lay the Weapons Down

Peace be upon you, beautiful human being!

Today’s world needs lots of problem-solvers just like you to not give up on your very special Dream. Yup, that one.

The one that’s been humming in your heart, but sometimes the voices outside are too loud and you just can’t hear the beat.

That one.

But what happens when someone ridicules that very special Dream? When someone calls you unrealistic or even…crazy?!

Breathe in, breathe out.

Do you still want it just as bad? Or did you let someone else talk you out of the very purpose you were sent to the earth for

Reflect. Change. Serve.

And remember, whenever someone else does not understand your dreams, you do not have to make it an ego battle.

Lay the weapons down.

The golden rule is this: Choose the path of least resistance.

If you stop at every pebble throw in your way, how are you going to make it to the finish line?

The people who are cheering for you are so much louder than the sour patches!!!

You just can’t hear ‘em yet ‘cuz you’re too focused on the wrong side.

Change your focus.

The earth needs you desperately – to step up, to put your ego on the ground where it belongs, to be a servant-leader.

The blessings will pour from every direction. Your path will be made easy, God Willing.

You just make that intention that you will never, ever give up.

This dream to do so much good is God’s Dream for you – how you will take care of the earth in a way no one else ever can.

Please take care of yourself first.

Love yourself first.

You need to tune in to that inner voice and focus.

Everything else is background noise that fades away.

It’s time to step up your game.

Lay your weapons down and focus.

With So Much Love x Gratitude (Light),

Just Mishi
